These models represent the Armstrong-Frederick 42-pounder cannons fit to late 18th Century Royal Navy ships-of-the-line. These cannons were 9.5 feet (2.9 m) long, measured from muzzle to the rear of the base ring. Including the "button", they were even longer.
As built, HMS Victory was originally intended to carry 30 of these weapons. She began fitting with them about 1778 for service during the American Revolutionary War, all on the lowest gun deck. Victory's 42-pounders were later replaced with lighter 32-pounder cannons which were easier to procure.
Although there were variations among real cannons, these models' scaled dimensions and details match dimensions from tables published in "British Smooth-bore Artillery: a Technological Study to Support Identification, Acquisition, Restoration, Reproduction, and Interpretation of Artillery at National Historic Parks in Canada" by David McConnell.
