Scale: 1/350
Set includes 2 towers.
Recommended to help build the German battleship Gneisenau from:
- Dragon 1/350 scale Scharnhorst 1943
- Dragon 1/350 scale Scharnhorst 1941
- Iron Shipwrights 1/350 scale Scharnhorst
These models represent the two tower foundations supporting 4-meter domed rangefinders that served the 105 mm anti-aircraft battery of World War Two-era Deutsche Kriegsmarine battleship Gneisenau . The towers were differently shaped than those on sistership Scharnhorst.
The 4-meter SL-6 and SL-8 "Basisgeräte" rangefinder served the 105mm anti-aircraft battery of many World War Two-era, heavy German Navy warships including Bismarck, Tirpitz, Scharnhorst, Gneisenau, Graf Zeppelin, and the heavy cruisers Prinz Eugen, Admiral Hipper and Blücher. These rangefinders likely would have been fit to the planned H-Klasse super-battleships, O-Klasse battlecruisers, and aircraft carrier Peter Strasser. The rangefinders were protected by lightly armored hemispheres.
The rangefinders were electro-hydraulically stabilized. Because the rangefinders automatically changed their orientation in reaction to the motion of the ship, they were nicknamed "Wackeltopf" ("wobblypots") by their crews.
This model is scaled to represent the features of the actual ship based on the best, authoritative references available. It is NOT a 3D-printed copy of any plastic or resin kit's parts therefore it may be sized and shaped differently than the parts in your plastic or resin kit. Some adjustment to your kit's parts or other aftermarket sets such as photo etch or wood decks may be needed for best fit.
