Scale: 1/350

Recommended to help build USS Hornet CV-8 as she appeared in 1942 from:

  • Merit International 1/350 scale USS Yorktown CV-5
  • Merit International 1/350 scale USS Enterprise CV-6
  • Trumpeter 1/350 scale USS Hornet CV-8

This 3D-printed model is intended for modelers who prefer to use their own perforated photo-etch metal for catwalks and searchlight platforms.  This model does NOT include 3D-printed catwalks or searchlight platforms.

Photo-etch metal parts are NOT included with this 3D-printed model.

A 3D-printed USS Hornet CV-8 island that does include integrated 3D-printed catwalks and searchlight platforms is available separately.

Notice: aftermarket photo-etch sets with catwalk and searchlight platform parts intended for the Trumpeter 1/350 scale USS Hornet CV-8 kit's island are sized to fit that model.  This model was designed from official US Navy builder's blueprints and is differently shaped and sized than the Trumpeter kit's island.  Your photo-etch set's parts will require some adjustment to fit this 3D-printed island.

This accurately shaped and highly detailed model represents the 1942 appearance of the island of celebrated US Navy aircraft carrier USS Hornet CV-8, veteran of the Battles of Midway, Guadalcanal and Santa Cruz, and ship that launched the Doolittle Raiders to fame over Tokyo.

Features:

These 3D-printed parts are designed to accurately represent features of the actual ship.  They are not 3D-printed copies of plastic kit parts.  Some adjustment to your plastic kit's parts or other aftermarket parts such as photoetch or wood decks may be necessary for best fit.  To fit this acrylic island to your plastic kit's flight deck, please remove the raised locator strips on the kit's flight deck part.  A simple cuticle cutter can cleanly and easily remove these raised locator features.

From Wikipedia: "USS Hornet (CV-8), the seventh ship to carry the name Hornet, was a Yorktown-class aircraft carrier of theUnited States Navy. During World War II in the Pacific Theater, she launched the Doolittle Raid on Tokyo and participated in the Battle of Midway and the Buin-Faisi-Tonolai Raid. In the Solomon Islands campaign she was involved in the capture and defense of Guadalcanal and the Battle of the Santa Cruz Islands where she was irreparably damaged and sunk by enemy destroyers. Hornet was in service for a year and six days and was the last US fleet carrier ever sunk by enemy fire. For these actions, she was awarded four service stars, a citation for the Doolittle Raid in 1995, and her Torpedo Squadron 8 received a Presidential Unit Citation for extraordinary heroism for the Battle of Midway."
