This accurate and highly detailed model represents the post-May, 1945 refit "long-bridge" island of USS Lexington CV-16 as it appeared from late May, 1945 through the end of the war. It was in this configuration during attacks on the Japanese mainland.
This appearance reflects modifications made during April-May, 1945 at Puget Sound. Changes include the removal of the forward-most Bofors mount and tub, enlarging of her flag plot and navigating bridge, changes to the shape of her navigating bridge and flag plot decks and associated splinter shielding, the shape of the mast-top radar platform was changed and enlarged aft, as well as removal of some of the starboard-side 20mm Oerlikon mounts and shortening of their platforms.
This 3D-printed model includes integrated venturis (wind deflectors) on splinter shielding forward of the navigating bridge and air defense deck.
This 3D-printed design captures features specific to USS Lexington, differing from other 3D-printed Essex-class aircraft carrier island designs available separately.
