Recommended to help convert your Trumpeter 1/350 scale USS Lexington CV-2 kit or USS Saratoga CV-3 kit to Saratoga's 1942 appearance.
This model represents the island (bridge tower) of celebrated aircraft carrier USS Saratoga CV-3 as she appeared during the critical early months of World War II in the Pacific, May through October, 1942, during the Battles of the Eastern Solomons and Guadalcanal.
The major differences of this 1942 version and the earlier 1941 version are:
- no Spotting Tops, no Range Finder Station nor heavy tripod
- addition of the Air Defense Station
Features:
- accurately dimensioned from official US Navy Booklet of General Plans drawings.
- detail locations confirmed by careful study of photographs of the actual ship.
- highly detailed air defense station bulkheads and cylindrical stand for a Mk.37 "angle-back" Fire Control Director are properly sized and located. Mk.37 directors are available separately.
- proper venturi for 1942 with integrated ship's bell.
- open pilot house windows.
- accurately positioned doors of the correct configuration, most in the open position.
- portholes (airports) properly sized and located.
- detailed interior barbette and associated bulkheads with open scuttles.
- accurate loudspeakers.
- detailed base plate for a 5"/38 cal. Mk.32 twin-gun mount (turret). 5" mounts are available separately.
- raised 2-1/2 meter rangefinder tub.
