These models represent the two aft protected fighting positions, known as "gun tubs", fit to USS Arizona and other battleships in late 1941 (see photo in carousel). The models are intended to further detail your USS Arizona BB-39 model kit as the ship appeared at Pearl Harbor on December 7th, 1941.
Prior to the ship's destruction, it was intended to arm Arizona with quadruple 1.1 inch "Chicago Piano" anti-aircraft mounts. Raised, protected fighting positions, called "gun tubs", were constructed for the mounts and their crews but the ship was destroyed before the anti-aircraft mounts themselves were installed. Model kits often erroneously depict these tubs flat on the deck. The real tubs were raised above the deck on square stands.
The overall dimensions of these models match scaled dimensions of drawings of USS Arizona by Alan B. Chesley with details adjusted to match photos.
When installing these tubs, position the cutout so that it is oriented toward the ship's centerline. Caution is recommended when removing the connecting sprue. Acrylic plastic is brittle. Simply cut the sprue flush with the bottom of the tubs' square stands using an inexpensive cuticle clipper or sharp hobby knife.
These 3D-printed acrylic parts are designed to accurately represent features of the actual ship based on authoritative plans. They are not 3D-printed copies of inaccurate plastic kit parts and therefore are shaped and sized a bit differently. Some adjustment to your plastic kit's parts or other aftermarket parts such as photoetch or wood decks may be necessary for best fit.
