Scale: 1/72
Set includes:
- 8 acetylene cylinders (short, fat cylinders)
- 8 oxygen cylinders (tall, thin cylinders)
High-pressure acetylene and oxygen cylinders, used for welding and cutting, were widely used by American and allied military forces. They were carried aboard many American and allied ships during World War Two. On Fletcher class destroyers and Flower class corvettes, for example, these cylinders were stored in groups on racks fixed to exterior bulkheads in various locations throughout the superstructure (racks are not included).
These model oxygen cylinders' scaled dimensions match steel "T" cylinders, which are 55 inches (140 cm) tall by 9.25 inches (23.5 cm) in diameter.
The model acetylene cylinders' scaled dimensions match steel "WK" cylinders, which are 39 inches (99 cm) tall by 12.4 inches (31.5 cm) in diameter.
These models were designed from specifications found in various technical publications. These parts are made of acrylic plastic. Acrylic plastic does not behave like injection-molded polystyrene plastic or other resins. Glues for polystyrene plastic, like "Testors Liquid Cement" or tube cement, will not work with acrylic plastic. Cyanoacrylate (CA) "super glue" is recommended.
