This model represent one of two fire control statons, known as "fighting tops", of the battleships USS Tennessee BB-43 and USS California BB-44 as the ships appeared from 1921-1934. The model's overall dimensions are based on drawings made by Alan B. Chesley of the ships as they appeared in 1935. Details were confirmed by careful examination of available photographs of the actual ships taken from 1921-1934.
This fighting top is designed with open shutters all around and is specific to USS Tennessee and USS California. Other fighting tops for similar ships may be differently shaped. Tennessee-class fighting tops as they appeared from 1935 through 1941 are available separately.
