Nameplates are unpainted.  Renderings in the carousel show how nampelates may appear if painted in attractive brass or gold-colored paint.

"Arial", an easy to read and easy to paint font for most nameplates (USS Arizona BB-39, etc.).
"Caladea", an elegant font, for many 18th and 19th Century ships (HMS Victory, etc.).
"Fraktur", a traditional German font, for World War 1 and World War 2-era German ships (Bismarck, etc.).
"Mincho", a traditional Asian font, for Japanese and Chinese characters (Yamato 大和, etc.).
"Times New Roman" for Russian and other Cyrillic text (Адмира́л Кузнецо́в, etc.).

To help choose a length that will look good with your model, cut strips of paper of various lengths and hold them up to your model.  Choose a length that looks good to you.
