Here is a downloadable scan of an official Confederate States Navy drawing of the casemate ironclad ram CSS Virginia 1862, built from the scuttled steam frigate USS Merrimack.  The sketch was drawn by Confederate States Navy naval constructor John L. Porter dated 1861 probably at Navy Yard Norfolk, Virginia.  John L. Porter had overall responsibility for the conversion of the steam frigate USS Merrimack to casemate ironclad CSS Virginia.

The original scan was obtained from the US National Archives and Records Administration, College Park, Maryland.
